A BRIEF HISTORY
The Central Street Christian Church is the first and oldest “protestant” church in Summerside, PEI. It is of historic interest to the community and, more importantly, has been a great influence for Christ since the congregation was established on September 13, 1858. The original building was burned down in the great fire of 1906. The present building was built on the same lot in 1907. Over the years the building has grown to accommodate the needs of the people, including renovations and expansions in 1985 and 1993.
A Brief history of Christian Women's Fellowship. In 1909 just 100 years ago a Christian Women's Misssionary Society was organized in affiliation with the United Society. The first president was Mrs. M.F. Schurman. As the years have passed the name has changed several times to keep up with the church and now it is called The Christian Women's Fellowship with Louise Waite as our president. All ladies are welcome to join us. |
